After Orthotic Therapy
After Orthotic Therapy, there are 3 options for treatment:
A. Continued Orthotic Therapy
Orthotic Therapy is a short-term correction of your bite, but it can be continued over a period of time. Each orthotic will last between 2 and 3 years.
B. Orthodontic Treatment
The best way to move your teeth into the correct position for your ideal bite (currently achieved with the orthotic) is with orthodontic treatment. There are three different types of orthodontic treatment:
- Fixed stainless-steel braces
- Fixed ceramic braces
- Invisalign (invisible braces)
Both stainless-steel and ceramic fixed braces are fitted and maintained by an orthodontist. Designer Dental Studio is an accredited Invisalign practice, so Invisalign treatment can be completed without the assistance of a specialist. The timeframes for orthodontic treatment vary. Some treatments take as little as 9 months, while others can take up to 2.5 years. This depends on what is required to move your teeth into the correct position.
The one thing orthodontic treatment cannot do is change the shape or appearance of your tooth. It will put your teeth in the correct position, but you may still have significant wear, cracks and abfraction present in your teeth. Once your teeth are in the correct position, these conditions won’t get worse, but they won’t get better either.
Crowns and veneers can be placed on your teeth to strengthen and protect them, and in the process achieve a beautiful smile.
C)
Crowns /Veneers (Full Arch or Full Mouth approach)
Crowns and veneers are bonded to your teeth to:
- Achieve correct tooth position for your ideal bite
- Give strength and support, improving function
- Improve colour and appearance
Crowns and veneers are made from ceramic - a strong, durable, tooth-coloured material. Ceramic crowns and veneers are long-term restorations that often last in excess of 20 years. They can last a lifetime if placed within an ideal bite.
In order to fit the crowns within your ideal bite, tooth structure is removed from your natural teeth. The most conservative approach is to complete orthodontic treatment prior to preparing your teeth for crowns and veneers. However, many people choose just to proceed immediately with crowns and veneers. This process is significantly faster than orthodontic treatment.
Crowns and veneers can either be applied to one arch (either all upper teeth, or all lower teeth) or to both arches (full mouth).
