The biggest disadvantage for this option is the eventual fee:

• Root Canal Treatments
  The trauma of constant clenching and grinding, and the resulting cracking and tooth wear, often causes the nerves in teeth to die. It is not uncommon to see someone with no fillings in their teeth needing 6 Root Canal Treatments, due to their non-ideal bite.
  
  
• Tooth replacement
  Teeth weakened by wear and cracks are prone to fracture. As enamel near the gum chips away from clenching and grinding, the tooth is also significantly weakened. Often the tooth can fracture in such a way that the tooth cannot be saved.
