Any time you are playing a contact sport, we recommend that you wear a protective mouthguard.
The kind of injuries experienced by players of contact sport can result in significant tooth discomfort and long term dental concerns. Unprotected teeth can fracture, or fall out completely when the face and mouth area is hit by an object or another player.
Front teeth also have the potential to pierce the tongue or lower lip – not a pleasant experience!
Many different kinds of mouthguards are available. Many people are aware of pharmacy-bought mouthguards, which soften in hot water and mould to the shape of the teeth.
These mouthguards offer a degree of protection, but still will allow certain types of dental injuries to occur. They fit poorly and cover only the teeth.
Custom mouthguards, available at Designer Dental Studio, are thicker and stronger than pharmacy-bought mouthguards. They not only protect your teeth, but your soft tissues as well – your lips and gums. They offer full mouth protection.
Custom mouthguards are designed on an individual basis, and can be manufactured in a variety of colours. If you play for a team, you mouthguard can show your team colours!
If your play a contact sport, and currently DON'T have a custom mouthguard, please contact Designer Dental Studio to schedule an appointment.
We'd like to prevent those dental emergencies from the very beginning!
